Pre-Tour: Munich and the Erl Passion Play

It’s Passion Play season in Europe, and you can be a part of it! The passion Play of Erl in Tyrol (Austria) is the oldest passion play in the German speaking countries. Documents prove that already in 1613 pilgrims on their way to Altötting made a stop in Erl to see a passion play. Again in 2019, 600 out of the 1,450 inhabitants from Erl will be on stage to illustrate the life, death, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Of course actors, choir, and orchestra will be live on stage.

Visit the Passion Play in Erl Tyrol on our festival pre-tour to Bavaria! Four days full of excitement before going to Wittenberg:

Thursday, June 13, 2019

After arrival at Munich airport you will be welcomed by one from our Festival team. We transfer into the city where a local guide shows us the main sights. Our visit includes the historic Glockenspiel on the Marienplatz (Mary’s Plaza), the revered twin-towered Frauenkirche (Our Lady’s Church), the most familiar landmark of old Munich, and more. We meet for welcome dinner after a long day of travel.

Friday, June 14, 2019

A full day in Munich. As it will be in Wittenberg, we provide several options and ideas. You can visits museums, do some shopping, or enjoy cafés and restaurants. Additional trips are offered to Neuschwanstein castle and the Dachau concentration camp memorial. The group meets for dinner in a Bavarian beergarden where everyone can share their experiences.

Saturday, June 15, 2019

This is the day where we enjoy the Erl Passion Play. We leave Munich on a motor coach to enjoy a scenic drive through Bavaria before arriving in Erl. We return to our hotel in Munich in the evening.

Post tour: Prague with a Bike Tour to Karlstejn Castle

Saturday, June 22, 2019

After the Festival is over and we said good-bye to everyone who is not joining the post-trip, we board a motor coach and head towards Prague in the Czech Republic. We will have dinner in our hotel and may go for a first walk.

Sunday, June 23, 2019

A day in Prague! A guided tour takes us to the Hradschin Castle, we cross the Charles Bridge (and listen to some of the best Jazz and Dixieland Musicians playing along the streets), and try to understand the astronomic clock at the town hall which dates back to 1410. Shopping possibilities are endless in the afternoon. Dinner will be on a cruise boat on the Vlatava river while we enjoy the illuminated skyline of the “Golden City” of Prague.

Monday, June 24, 2019

Join us on our Karlstejn Castle Bike Tour! We roll southwest of Prague along the Vltava and Berounka Rivers and through the Czech countryside to the gothic fortress built by King Karel IV. The Castle is one of the most-visited castles in the country. During our trip we will pass through several villages, making observation and refreshments stops. Upon our arrival at Karlstejn Village we stop for lunch in a traditional Czech restaurant. After visiting the castle we return back to Prague by train.

Tuesday, June 25, 2019

We get transferred to Prague airport for our homebound flights.
